At some Point, the Day Must End

When do you go to sleep? I think there is a time after which nothing good will happen.

Background

I used to watch the popular series How I Met Your Mother. I saw it from the start to the end for dozens of times. There is a rule that one of the main character said: “Nothing Good Happens After 2 A.M.”. This rule and the episode about it is fun. Additionally, there might be some truth behind it too.

Sleeping

Getting enough sleep is important. There are several ways to achieve this. One of the fundamental parts of it is creating a sleep routine. Every day going to sleep at the same time and waking up at the same time, even on weekends. Read more about it at How to Fix Your Sleep Schedule.

Nothing Good Happens After …

Change the time to create your own rule. It isn’t just about the routine, but about how you will feel past this time.

For example, the nights when you really want to finish that task, but you see that you will have to stay up late. There are two possible outcomes. One is that you finish it late night. The chances that your work has mistakes have spiked up. You feel horrible, there might not even be energy left for the before-sleep tooth brushing. The second outcome is to try and try till you actually can’t do anything anymore. Not even coffee can help, so you go to sleep. Next morning you will have to live with the fact that you failed that one thing that you were so determined about. What about a third option? Look at the clock, and remember your own rule. Fall asleep knowing that nothing good will happen today. Tomorrow you will finish the task more efficiently.
