They can be considered old features, but I just discovered them in more depth.

Figma Has Variables

I recently watched Figma for Developers, v2 from Frontend Masters because I needed a little refresher before designing a website and I discovered how great variables are. I knew they existed, but I didn’t know they can do magical things in prototyping.

It is nice to see that Figma is somewhat developer focused. Components, variables (and of course, it has a Developer Mode too) and they even write web development related examples in tutorials. So for me even, it’s simple to create basic designs.

Variables can level up my designs for sure. It’s so simple, but the outcome is beautiful. For example in prototyping you can increase a number when a button is pressed. This is kind of like no code, but in your design system.
